Ingenious Science Project: How to Make Glow in the Dark Water. Your kids will love this!

Who needs glow sticks when you have water, right? I found this cool little experiment of making fluorescent water and my mind instantly went into overdrive contemplating how I can make use of this interesting fun fact. Well, first and foremost, if you have kids they’ll definitely love this experiment! It’ll be a great way to blow their little minds, especially since it’s so quick and easy to do. And once you’ve glow-ified your water, you can store it in a bottle and, unlike glow sticks, it won’t fade.

All you need to do is take a non-toxic highlighter and cut it open to remove the ink-soaked felt inside. Slice that tube open to release the ink and then just soak it in water for a while or squeeze the ink out if you want it to go quicker. Then you just need to put a UV light (black light) to it and it’ll light right up!

If you want someone’s actual beverage to light up which they can still drink safely, just pour them a glass of tonic water and bring that to the UV light. The tonic water will light up on its own!

Although the bright blue glow may make it look radioactive, we all know that tonic water is safe to drink. Tonic water contains a chemical called quinine that comes from the bark of a specific tree; this natural-occurring chemical has actually been used to treat malaria for centuries. Even though there is such a small amount of the bitter-tasting quinine dissolved into the water, when under a UV light, it emits a fluorescent glow all on its own.

Pretty cool, huh?

It's Coming...Cold & Flu Season

Ready or not here it comes!

Every year, people are hospitalized  from the cold or flu virus. I dread going to the doctor with the flu because I am always afraid that I will catch something far worse while waiting to be seen. I imagine the nasty virus bugs floating in the air...yuk! So I try my best to avoid this if at all possible.

Do you catch a cold or flu? The answer is No….you create it.

A cold or flu takes hold when the body is weakened and the immune system response is low. With an already weak immune system, once a person comes in contact with a bacterium or virus, a cold or flu is created in the body.

Some reasons for a Weakened Immune System and how to prevent it:

  • Stress - Use meditation, music, or other form of stress reliever. Exercise is wonderful for relieving stress. Take your dog for a walk with your spouse and unwind from your day.

  • Poor Diet: Diet high in Sugars and/or Processed foods - eat more natural food like veggies/fruits. Try to avoid the chemical trap. Make it yourself from natural, unprocessed ingredients. You will notice a difference in your health...fewer headaches, clearer skin, more energy, better mood and more!

  • Overworked - Slow down, take care of yourself,  and rest as often as possible. I know, who has the time right? Remember this, you do a lot for so many people. You are no good to anyone if you are falling apart. Take the time to take care of yourself so you can be the best YOU.

  • Dehydration - Drink half your body weight in ounces, each day Add a fruit infuser to your water bottle for added freshness. My three favorites are lemon, cucumber, or strawberry-pineapple water. I can drink a lot more if it tastes good.

  • Poor Hygiene - Scrupulous hand washing, really get in the creases and between fingers. Use a nail brush to brush under your nails. Use hand sanitizer when hand washing is not available.

Some Essential oils will help fight a cold/flu. If you already have a Cold or Flu, when using Essential Oils, the symptoms will be minimized and reoccurrence of the infection can be lessened.

For kids 2+ I suggest:

Stay well my friends
